Grade Your Coins

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Jason Martin To the novice, it might seem like one coin is as good as the next. However, thats just not the case. To determine value of coins of the same type, grading is performed. Basically, grading is the process that determines the conditionand the valueof the coin being looked at. The grade of a coin can wildly affect its value. Years past, Dr. William Shelby devised the 0-70 scale system for grading coins. Today, this code is combined with letters to create a great coin grading scale that anyone can follow. In the remainder of this article, I am going to share with you nine different grades for coins. We will start with the best possible grade and work our way down from there. The best possible grade is MS, which means Mint State. Actually, the MS grade has a numerical range from 60 to 70. An MS coin is perfect in every way and uncirculated. You dont find MS-70 coins, you buy themif you can. The majority of MS grade coins you will see are MS-65. If you turn on your TV, theres probably a coin selling show that will have MS grade coins. Next up is AU. Almost uncirculated (AU) coins typically have very light traces of wear on them. One thing is for sure. The novice will have trouble determining if the coin is AU-50, AU-55, or some other grade. Heres a tip. Find the highest point on the coin (the part that sticks out the most) and look for wear. That will be your guide. Below the AU grade is the EF grade, which means extremely fine. The EF coins have slightly more wear. Keep in mind that grading is a precise process. EF grade coins are very striking. Very Fine coins (VF) have even more wear than the EF grade coins, but they are still great to look at. VF grade coins have sharp features, and light wear. Its one step above the change you have in your pocket. Fine coins are basically pocket change. These coins still resemble their mold, but they have worn details. Perhaps you have seen a worn coin from the 1960s. If the coin is really showing some wear, it can be downgraded to Very Good (VG). The rims of the coin will still pop, but the coin has miles on it. Should the coin be fairly worn, but the mint marking is still visible; its Good (G). Below Good is AG (Almost Good). The AG grade coin has excessive wear, and features like the date might be partly missing. Fair (F) coins are in miserable shape. They might even have holes in them or be misshaped. Finally, there is the Basal State coin, which is basically a worthless coin. The author is a coin collecting enthusiast. He also likes stamp collecting. He also entered the world of soap making. How To Hold Your Childs Dream Picnic With Miniature Tea Sets And Clever Decorating

Friday, February 29th, 2008

By Lee Dobbins Miniature tea sets are fun to collect and some can be quite valuable, but, perhaps the most value of them is to see the delight on your child’s face when you setup a tea party picnic with them. To experience picnic paradise, try to make a billowy tent right in your backyard for a magical garden getaway. Let your children experience the sweetness of playing adulthood by letting them plan their games and manage their things used in the game. In most recreational activities, afternoon tea parties are one of the most favorite pastimes of young girls and even boys. They would love to experience the actual feeling of serving their guests with sumptuous cups of tea and mini biscuits. Afternoon tea parties will never be the same without a good set of miniature tea sets. These fancy little gizmos are mini replicas of the actual tea sets used by the Chinese ancestry. With remarkable designs and embellishments, miniature tea sets provide excellent tea service to your childs friends. Miniature tea sets come in 32-piece, 10-piece, and 7-piece sets. They are available in various designs, colors, and adornments. A complete miniature tea set includes cream pitcher, cups and saucers, teapot, and sugar bowl. It also includes harmless knife, fork, and spoon. Other miniature tea sets have additional elements such as table cloth, napkins, wicker basket. Miniature tea sets may vary according to the designs embedded within the porcelain tea sets. Since they are made from porcelain, miniature tea sets are known for its resonance, low permeability, hardness, high elasticity, chemical attack, brittleness, translucence, glassiness, whiteness, high resistance to the flow of electricity, and thermal shock. One of the main reasons why miniature tea sets are deemed as attractive and decorative pieces of toys for young girls and boys is that they are craftily created in such a way that the designs are made to capture everybodys heart content. After all, most people say that afternoon tea parties are always a much-see event for young ones and young-alike. To maximize the use of miniature tea sets in your afternoon tea party, it is best that you teach your children how to organize a wonderful venue. The classiness and loveliness of miniature tea sets will be useless if the venue for the event is not properly made. To give you and your children some great ideas on how to create picnic paradise, here are some tips: 1. Prepare the tent Since the concept of miniature tea sets are basically designed after the philosophies and culture of China, it is highly recommended that the theme in most afternoon tea parties should be Asian-inspired setting. For the tent foundation, drive four bamboo poles into the ground, forming the four points of a square, until they stand up straight. Or place poles in clay pots filled with wet cement instead to preserve the grass. Let cement dry completely. You should help your children in setting this one. 2. Hang the clothesline Tie a long string or wire around the top of each pole to make a square clothesline. Drape and arrange sheer fabric over the poles and string. 3. Be artsy on decorations Decorate the curtains with ribbons and flowers. Hang tassels, lamps, or chimes for added whimsy. With these things, you are trying to incorporate the typical setting of the Asian setting. 4. Interior designs Inside the tent, place a woven mat on the grass. Toss in colorful pillows. 5. Accessories Set a low coffee table at the center of the mat. Decorate the interior with fresh flowers, colorful pebbles, and scented candles to complete your Asian-inspired setting. And to top it all off, have your miniature tea sets placed on the table with tea, cream, and sugar at hand. Snacks can be prepares too. Cookies and biscuits go well with just about any kind of tea. You can also cook some burgers and fries but that would cost you more. The important thing here is on how your little one enjoys serving her guests and feels proud of it because of the wonderful miniature tea set that she has. So the next time you want to create picnic paradise for your kids, keep these things in mind and buy the most wonderful miniature tea set you can find. Alternatively, miniature tea sets are not just great afternoon tea party pieces but also fully functional decorative pieces for your China cabinet, shelves, or other display settings. The New Wave of Cardio that Burns the Most Fat

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

By Chaney Weiner Whenever you think of cardio training the first thing that usually comes to mind is that of treadmills, stationary bikes, stair climbers and how long you will be doing your cardio for. The thought is that the more minutes you do the more fat that you will lose. In reality what happens is that the more traditional cardio you do (treadmill, bike, stair climber) the less fat you tend to lose. Have you ever noticed the people who seem to only do cardio in the gym and most of them are either still overweight or they still look the same. If doing traditional cardio has a tendency to burn less fat then what type of cardio would burn more fat and in less time? The answer is, either hybrid training and/or circuit training. Both types of training involves working the entire body as a unit and can be done either with time intervals (for example, 30 seconds of doing an exercise followed by a 15 second rest and doing a group of exercises) or you can count repetitions. Both of these types involves elevating the heart rate to a safe enough % in order to allow you to burn the most fat. Hybrid training involves having 3-4 mini circuits within a workout. Each of these circuits can consist of 2,3, or 4 exercises and done for 2-3 sets. You can use weights and other fitness equipment combined together. For example you can do a chest exercise with weights and then a back exercise and follow that with a balance or leg exercise. Circuits of 2 exercises are called bi plexes. Circuits of 3 exercises are called tri plexes and circuits of 4 exercises are called quadplexes. Circuit training can involve exercise stations. Typically 12 stations can be used although the number can vary. In this type of training you can use time intervals as well. In the most basic example you would start off at station 1 and do the exercise for 30 seconds without stopping. Then you would rest for 15 seconds and move on to the next station and continue to do so until you complete all 12 stations. This type of training allow you to keep your heart rate elevated while burning more calories than traditional cardio training and in a shorter amount of time. When using either the hybrid method or the circuit method you want to do as many of the exercises, if not all of them both standing/moving (lunges, stepping while pressing, etc) and without the use of machines. The types of equipment you can use is dumbbells, bands, pulleys, bodyweight, medicine balls, and stability balls. Hybrid training and circuit training burns more fat than traditional cardio exercises because you are using your entire body to perform exercises that involve using large muscle groups working together done from a standing position with movement and involving equipment (weights, pulleys, etc) that will help you build muscle/tone while also allowing you do get the same cardio effect. In fact this type of training has been found to be more efficient at burning fat than traditional cardio. In addition hybrid and circuit training gives you an infinite amount of different exercises that you can use to make the process of losing fat and getting in shape fun and enjoyable. Types of Water Gardens

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

By Tim Sousa It is springtime again and you are planning a new project for your backyard. Along with the many options for backyard improvement such as gardens and patios, there is another project you might consider; building a water garden. Water gardens provide a relaxing oasis at the end of a busy day in the summertime or for those lazy summer afternoons where you can just let your cares slip away. But before you run out the backdoor with a shovel and a crazed look in your eyes, or head to the nearest garden supply store, you’ll need to plan this project. What type of water garden do you want? Would you want a fountain that creates the soothing sound of running water? How about a peaceful pond where you can have fish and other creatures and plants? There are several types or water features and fountains to choose from, so let’s take a look at these types. Containers: A container water garden is a good choice for those who have a limited space to work with. The requirements for a container garden include a sunny place on your patio or deck, some lovely aquatic plants and a suitable container. Containers range from bowls that hold several gallons to large barrels and tubs. Container water gardens have the advantages of being easy to build, and easy to take care of. Raised ponds: Raised ponds are man made ponds that are also easy to build but require some masonry skills because the ponds are built with concrete blocks or bricks. These ponds are suitable for fish because the temperature of the water is more stable than a container water garden. These ponds are well suited for formal gardens and are safe around children as well as the workability for maintenance and cleaning. These ponds can be partially or fully raised. Sunken Ponds: A Sunken pond is another man made pond which requires a lot of digging as well as the placement of a flexible or preformed liner once the hole is created. Patio stone can also be placed around it to add to the decor. These ponds are also well suited to fish and aquatic plants. Bog: A Bog is an irregular shaped hole in the ground that was dug out. It is built by digging out some ground and laying a flexible liner with sand, plants and rocks holding it down. This feature is appropriate for wildlife such as dragonflies, frogs and others. Natural bogs can be made without a liner and very little water, used to manage and filter rainwater runoff which is an important environmental feature. If you enjoy the sound of running water, you can also add that to your water garden in several ways. You can add small waterfall that runs directly into your pond. Or you can add a cascading feature with a series of waterfalls that run down over rocks into small pools before trickling into a main pond. Or you can have a fountain that throws the water into the air from a pump that is located under the surface or is embedded inside a statue. This statue is usually located in the fountain’s center. And for that special touch, you will want to add such features as garden bridges, statuary, stepping stones, and other accents, that will provide just the right decor for your tastes. So start planning your backyard water feature, and soon you’ll have your own special oasis in your own backyard. Academic Success Tips For International Students In Europe And America/Canada

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

By Jagdish Khubchandani I wont say that some of the world’s best students get an opportunity to study abroad but yes, some of the most fortunate students get this opportunity. These students, despite their strong academic backgrounds face real challenges adapting to the university environment on a foreign soil. I consider North America, Canada and Europe as the hottest spots for study abroad programs. This assumption is courtesy statistics provided in higher education chronicles. Keeping in mind the revenue generated by American Universities from foreign nationals one can easily understand the reason for America topping the destination chart. One need not be apprehensive about the education system in the aforementioned destinations. For my first six months in class I didnt speak anything and even if the professor was wrong I never raised a question. In my system a teacher is revered no matter what but, professors in America want students to express their own views. They want vigorous discussion, even if it means disagreeing with faculty and classmates. The goal is to foster expertise, originality, and independent assessment. The sooner a student knows that, the better. That was just an example and students may face various challenges and its hard to sum up all situations in an article. Lets see how I can help you with the facts which form some of the baseline requirements for succeeding in a foreign university Communication in English- Oral and Written English by and large is the most common language around the world for day to day human interaction. If you plan to study abroad and you know English, thats half the battle won. From travel to job interviews and from classroom to conference, limited knowledge of English hinders progress in Europe and America. You might be a scholar in your home country but in this country it hardly matters unless you have the right marketing tool i.e strong communication skills in English. Your participation in class is welcomed and often required. You may not be intelligent but you are enthusiastic and thats what the instructors look for in an American/ European college. Becoming flexible to accommodate hectic schedules and classes. I have always been an evening person. But when you go for a study abroad program you need to be a 24 hour person. Reading assignments are extensive, much more than international students are used to doing each week. Typically, international students work in the day and go for classes in evening. Little margin is left for many of your routine activities which you were able to perform in your home country. Rather than cribbing try to adapt as soon as possible. Sooner the better. Period. Maintaining integrity and academic honesty. Expressing your own, non plagiarized, original views in the form of papers, class discussions, and research. Students here are continually evaluated on performance, not just at end of course. Academic performance is stressed. Admission to top schools is not an end in itself. It’s important to do well there. International students need to understand American/European standards of academic honesty. In particular, they should recognize that proper quotations and citations are essential. That’s not always true in their home countries. The differences in standards can lead to serious problems for international students. What may be an innocent mistake or cultural misunderstanding can easily lead to change of plagiarism, with severe repercussions. That’s why it’s so important for international students to learn Eurpean/ American standards of academic honesty and incorporate them in their own work. American instructors and European teachers appreciate if you tell them in their face I was in no mood to study and so I didnt do my homework. It may sound strange for some of you but it works like that at least in America. One of my friends always said Human beings are valued more in these countries. He would say that after making an excuse for not submitting his homework and getting 7 extra days from our professor for submitting the same homework. Asking for help and volunteering. One, who knows that he knows not, knows something. In my opinion American and Canadian professors are the most welcoming and unassuming while answering questions. They try to answer even the most hilarious questions with lot of sincerity and by chance if they dont know the answer they will honestly say I never knew this but as soon as I find the answer I will get back to you. Pluralism is a fact of life in North American universities and a key value shared by students, faculty, and the wider society. Tolerance for others is expected. What Is A Burglary Charge?

Monday, February 25th, 2008

By Robert Davis Greetings to all; A burglary crime is a crime committed when a person breaks into, enters unlawfully, or forcefully enters a dwelling, vehicle or other habitat maintained or own by another person. If you break into a home, that’s a burglary. If you break into a vehicle, mobile home, storage facility, garage, etc, that’s burglary. It doesn’t matter if someone is home or not. The crime is committed because you unlawfully placed yourself in a place you are not authorized to be in. Suppose the owner gave you permission to enter the dwelling but upon arriving, you had to use force to enter the dwelling? If the owner concurs, it’s not a burglary. If the owner had given you permission, but later informs the police that he did not give it, it’s a burglary charge. Why did I bring this odd example into play? I knew of a person that was set up like this. This is why you should be very careful taking someone’s word about entering anyplace without permission. Personally for me, if their not family or very good friends, I’m not going in. I rather wait until they arrive or come with me. This is a very old vindictive game played by many people in the 30’s and 40’s. You simply set your enemy up. It will work today as well as back then. Understand that the law is based on it’s written meaning. A District Attorney could place you in jail for a very long time based on the meaning and wording of the law, not on your intent. Be careful where you go, what you do, and who you listen to. It’s a very dangerous world out there! This author submits professional articles to http://www.ezinearticles.com His articles informs citizens about how to handle different situations when confronted by the police. He is a former award winning police officer. Mr. Davis is an authorize speaker to young police recruits in Louisiana. He is also a master in wilderness suvival. In addition, Mr. Davis has been a featured guest on many television shows detailing how to detect rogue police officers as well as a defense against such officers. How to Make a Beautiful Ribbon Bow for Your Gift or Gift Basket and Save Money Too

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

By Helen Hecker It’s easy to learn how to make a bow. A big, beautiful, tied ribbon bow puts a perfect professional finishing touch on your gifts and gift baskets. And a hand-tied bow is always a perfect finish. The florist’s bow has long been used in the floral and gift basket industry and for many years was somewhat of a trade secret. Not anymore! And these ribbon bows will save money because they are cheap to make. Now with these easy instructions you can easily learn how to make and tie a small or big beautiful ribbon bow on every gift you buy or create and every gift basket you make. You’ll save a lot of money too, because big bows are not cheap. You can buy a lot of ribbon with the money you save from making one big bow. You don’t need a bow maker, these are so simple to make. For colored bows, red ribbon bows are the most popular, followed by blue and yellow bows. But use any color or pattern ribbon you like. You can use silk, satin, velvet, wired or any type of ribbon. Now here are the instructions on how to make or tie a beautiful ribbon bow. First cut about eight to nine feet or so of ribbon. Use any type of ribbon, any thickness. But at least one inch is best. Wired ribbon is easiest to work with. Experiment with different widths using cheap ribbon to get a feel for what works best. Try the more expensive wire ribbon when you get proficient. Now, make a loop over your thumb to make the center of the bow. If using thin ribbon use 2-3 times the length of your ribbon and make a larger number of loops, otherwise it’ll be flimsy. Tightly pinch the ribbon and twist it counterclockwise between your fingers and thumb. The ribbon should have the right side (the side with the pattern, if any), facing out. Start from the top and work down. Make the loops in the ribbon the same size and return each time to the center. Slightly pinch and twist each loop under the original center loop and hold this stack with your thumb. Make sure if there is a pattern on the ribbon that it’s facing out. The tail of the ribbon should come out the other side with each loop you make. Continue making loops until you’ve made a bow the size that you want. Now, twist a piece of wire around the center of the bow and wind it around tightly a few times. Twist the ends of the wire together behind the bow and leave enough so you can use it to attach the ribbon bow to a gift, gift basket, Christmas present, birthday present, bottle or any other object. Now pull, twist and fluff up your ribbon bow and you’re done! If you make a lot of bows you may want to seek out wholesale sources of ribbon. You can find these on the Internet by typing in the words ‘wholesale ribbon.’ Otherwise, you can find ribbon cheap at dollar-type stores. Costco usually has great wired ribbon selections, especially around Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter and other holidays. Now, knowing this trade secret about how to make florist’s bows and with these instructions, you should be able to create, tie and make beautiful ribbon bows. Bows can be red, blue, or yellow. They can be made of silk, satin, velvet, fabric or other something else. They can be wired or not. Use your personalized bows on gift wrapping for your gifts, gift baskets, Christmas, presents, Christmas gifts, birthday presents, birthday gifts, bottle gifts and for just about any kind of gift, gift basket or gift wrapped item. Gift Giving Necessities That Surround A Wedding

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

By Michael S. Stuart Are weddings really about getting married anymore? Maybe the actual marriage is important to the bride and groom, but it seems like weddings in the 21st century are becoming more and more focused on gifts. When people travel from out of town to attend a wedding, its common to leave a gift basket in their hotel rooms filled with goodies. When a person throws a bridal shower, not only must the attendees bring gifts, but its also common for the bride-to-be to give the host a thank you gift. Bridesmaids and groomsmen have grown accustomed to receiving bridal party gifts before the wedding. The bride and groom normally give each other wedding-day gifts. The parents of the bride and groom often give each other gifts. All guests are normally given small gifts to accompany their place cards at their tables. And, of course, all of the guests must purchase wedding gifts for the bride and groom. The list of gift giving necessities that surround a wedding goes on and on. Gift giving is practically endless! With so many gift giving opportunities before, during and after a wedding, its not uncommon for people to run out of gift ideas. Normally, a bride and groom will register for gifts theyd like to receive for their showers and the actual wedding. But, there are many people who do not believe in the concept of registering for gifts, and they always seem to purchase gifts that the bride and groom will probably never use. (All married couples have a stash of unwanted wedding gifts sitting in their basements, closets, garages, or crawl spaces.) A good alternative for wedding guests who do not wish to purchase gifts off a bridal registry are wedding gift baskets. These types of baskets are often filled with a very creative assortment of items including foods and wines which will definitely not end up in the unwanted gifts pile. Great gift basket ideas for out-of-town guests who will stay in a hotel during their visit is something that captures a bit of the city where the wedding will take place. For example, guests to a wedding in Georgia may enjoy a gift basket filled with Georgia peaches and guests to a wedding in Colorado may enjoy a gift basket that includes authentic Rocky Mountain Chocolate. The beauty of giving gift baskets to a bride and groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, wedding guests, out-of-town visitors, shower hosts, mothers of the bride and groom and fathers of the bride and groom is that they can be purchased with minimal effort in a pre-packaged form (most gift basket companies offer this), or they can be completely personalized to include special items that the gift basket recipient(s) are sure to love. Remember, gift baskets are always a good alternative for wedding guests to purchase for the bride and groom. The newlyweds will appreciate a gift basket that was assembled with care and thoughtfulness. Michael Stuart owns and operates MyGiftBasketIdeas.com which offers various wedding gift basket ideas. Six Steps To Developing A Marketing Message That Sells

Monday, February 18th, 2008

By Julie Chance All too often companies spend a lot of time and money developing their logo and the graphic look and feel of their promotional materials - important aspects of effective marketing - while giving only cursory consideration to their marketing message - an equally important component to successfully promoting your business. Development of your marketing message should be given at least equal time as development of the graphic elements or what is commonly referred to as the “look and feel”. Here is a six step process that will help assure your marketing message will sell. 1. Capture the attention of your target market with a headline that clearly defines who you are talking to. If you are selling to retirees your headline might be something like, “If you are 65 or older. 2. Identify the problems, symptoms, issues, needs and wants of your target market. You must start with where they are and then move them to the action you want them to take. To continue our example, if you are looking for retired people to volunteer time to a cause your sub-head might read, And looking for a way to make a difference in the lives of others”. 3. Provide a brief description of the product. This is the features of your product or service. Be sure you describe features that matter to the target market you are communicating with and that you describe them from the target market’s prospective. In other words, talk about what your customer is buying - not what you are selling. 4. Describe the benefit and the value that the customer will derive from purchasing your product or service (or from taking the action you want them to take). Again these benefits must be pertinent to the customer group you are selling to. 5. Give your message credibility. This could include testimonials, case studies, or money-back guarantees. 6. Specifically state the action you want the recipient of your message to take. For example, “Pick-up the phone now and call 111-222-3333 to register” is much more likely to lead to action than simply giving a telephone number and assuming that if the person wants to register they will call the number. Whenever possible, you will also want to offer multiple ways for people to take action (i.e. phone, email, fax, regular mail, and website). Follow these six simple steps and you’ll have a marketing message that sells. And the great thing about investing in development of your marketing message - just like your logo - you will be able to - and you will want to - use it in all your promotional materials from your 30 second introduction to your website.
